In 2023, freelancers in the 30 largest US freelancing markets saw their revenue increase by 6.1%, reaching $191 billion, as reported by Fiverr International. New York City freelancers led with $30.36 billion in earnings, followed by Los Angeles at $22.20 billion and Miami at $15.69 billion. These top 30 markets represent 57% of US freelancers and account for 63% of the total revenue.
The number of freelancers in these markets grew to 4.0 million, up 2.4% from the previous year. On average, freelancers in these areas earned $48,288, which is $4,334 more than the national average. Earnings varied widely, with the highest average in technical services freelancers in Washington at $75,255 and the lowest for creative professionals in St. Louis at $19,250.
